PROCESS

In your complimentary discovery call, I’ll ask about your goals, constraints, timeline, and budget. Next, I’ll send you a proposal outlining how I can help. Once you’re ready to move forward, I’ll send a contract and we’ll get started using the process below.

Step 0: Timelines & Deliverables

Before beginning work, we'll define a timeline with milestones for impact along the way. I prefer to work in an agile framework, where we can start realizing results incrementally over the project timeline instead of waiting for a "big bang" release at the end. This allows you to see the value of your investment earlier, begin making critical budget and personnel shifts sooner, and adjust scope and orientation as we move forward.

Step 1: where are we?

Another way to frame this question is: Why are we having this conversation? I begin by understanding where the organization has come from and where you are situated today. We'll be looking at funding and budgets, the competitive forces in your industry, and your areas of strength and opportunity. We can't skip this step, but we can move more quickly if you've already completed some of this scoping.

Tools include leadership and work style assessments, analysis of competitive landscape, review of financial and program documents, stakeholder interviews, and facilitated discussion.

Step 2: where are we going?

Given the understanding we've established and your strengths, what does the path forward look like? I prefer to work within a 1-3 year time frame but we can project up to 10 years out when it comes to developing strategy, positioning, human capital planning, and infrastructure. Change management is baked into the process: stakeholders are consulted regularly and are brought along from the beginning. Tension is inevitable when people care about their work, but it doesn't have to be a negative. Productive and collaborative tension will sharpen our thinking and bring us to a vision your team is passionate about.

Tools include strategic planning models customized to your organization, Pareto analysis, financial projections, and facilitated discussion with key stakeholders and comparators.

step 3: how do we get there?

Here's the fun part! Growth and change can feel incremental, like turning a battleship, or they can give your team whiplash. We'll identify an agile plan with immediate results and gradual transformation. You'll be on the path to smashing your goals for the next 1-3 years (and we can keep working together to adjust and stay motivated along the way!).
